A porn blocker that doesn't take screenshots of your phone

Escape is a porn blocker that never takes screenshots of your phone: it stops porn before it loads, on your own device, so there is nothing on screen to capture and nothing to send. It needs no account, no name and no email, and its App Store privacy label reads Data Not Collected. The Safari blocker is free on iPhone, iPad and Mac. If you want someone in your corner, they can hold the passcode that turns protection off and still see nothing of your screen.

Blocked before it loads

Escape gives Safari a list of more than 40,000 known adult sites, and Safari does the blocking on your phone. When one of those addresses is asked for, the page never appears. The list is curated, so it also catches the mirror and variant addresses of the big sites. Escape never sees what you browse or what was blocked, because the blocking happens on your device. A plain-language look at how that works.

What stays on your phone

  • Your browsing. Escape never sees it, and nothing goes to anyone: no reports, no screenshots, no activity log.
  • Your streak. The counter of days since you last watched porn lives on your phone. It counts minutes in the first hour, then hours, then days, and it can sit on your Home Screen as a widget.
  • Your app choices. When you pick apps to block, Apple's picker keeps the list private, so Escape never learns which apps you chose.
  • Your name. Escape never asks for it. There is no account and no email.

Escape's App Store privacy label reads Data Not Collected.

Private, and still strong

With Premium, the blocking reaches further and holds harder:

  • Deep Block covers every browser on iPhone and iPad, Chrome, Firefox, Brave, Edge and others, plus private and incognito tabs. While it is on, iOS locks the Safari extension toggles.
  • Strict Mode puts a wait of 30, 60 or 120 minutes before blocking can be turned off.
  • Blocked Words stops a Safari search for a word you choose from loading.
  • App blocking keeps chosen apps closed. A blocked app shows Escape's block screen, with the words "You have currently Escaped." and a Back to yourself button. Blocking windows such as The After-Work Lull, 5 PM to 8 PM, switch it on by themselves. More on blocking apps.

A person in it, seeing nothing

Keeping your screen private does not mean going it alone. With Premium, you set Escape's protection passcode in Strict Mode, and a partner or trusted friend can hold it, so turning protection off needs them. They stand at the one moment that counts, and they never see your screen, your browsing or what was blocked, because none of it leaves your phone. If you want them to know how you are doing, tell them yourself. Your streak is yours to share. On the free version, start with Escape's PIN Protection: let them set the PIN, and Escape will not open without it.

Set it up

  1. Check the label first. On the App Store listing, Escape's privacy label reads Data Not Collected.
  2. Turn on the Safari blocker. It is free and works the moment it is on, with no sign-up: no name, no email.
  3. Reach every browser. On iPhone and iPad, switch on Deep Block.
  4. Add a wait. Choose 30, 60 or 120 minutes in Strict Mode.
  5. Choose a gatekeeper, if you want one. Set Escape's protection passcode in Strict Mode and give it to someone you trust. They will hold a code, nothing else.
