The industry we funded
A 7-day course on the scale of the porn industry: what you were paying into, with sourced numbers. Seeing the machine changes the story you tell yourself.
Day by day
- How big is this, really? The porn industry isn't a fringe thing. It's a $76B a year machine designed to capture and hold your attention. Recognizing the scale changes the moral arithmetic, you weren't weak. You were the target of professional design.
- The OnlyFans economy nobody talks about. OnlyFans is more income-unequal than any country on Earth. The 'creator economy' is a marketing story. The actual structure: most creators earn under $150 a month while a tiny user minority compulsively funds a small creator minority, and the platform takes its cut from every transaction.
- 10 minutes that became 5 billion hours. Average session = 10 min, 9 sec. Over 90% mobile (always available). 5.8 billion hours watched on one site in one year. The 'I can't stop scrolling' feeling isn't a willpower failure, it's an algorithm doing its job.
- Your time, in their balance sheet. Multiply hours per week × 52 × years. The number is the cost. Industry growth means: nothing external is going to stop this. The trade ends when you leave it.
- The age you started. Most adults working on porn recovery were exposed before age 13, often before age 10. The cycle isn't a moral failing of your adult self; it's a pattern installed before your prefrontal cortex was even fully formed. The shame frame ('why can't I just stop') misunderstands the timeline.
- What the bodies are telling us. About 1 in 5 sexually active young men report some ED. Causation vs. correlation is debated, but the 'quit for 60-90 days, things change' pattern is consistent across thousands of self-reports. The body has been responding to this whether or not the science has finished arguing about why.
- What you do with this knowledge. The reframe is the deliverable: you weren't weak, you were the target. Anger at a system that exploited you is more sustainable fuel than shame at yourself. The next slip, you have a different story to tell.
